Online Internet Safety Talk
A special thank you to Garda Vinnie and Sharon on giving a very informative talk to 5th and 6th Class pupils on the topic of online safety and also on the work the Gardaí carry out to keep everyone in our community safe.
In today's digital age, it's essential to educate children and teenagers about the potential risks and consequences of online activities. Here are some valuable tips and advice:
General Tips 1. Communicate openly-Talk to your child about online safety, listen to their concerns, and encourage them to ask questions. 2. Set boundaries: Establish rules and guidelines for online behavior, such as screen time limits and website restrictions. 3. Monitor activity: Keep an eye on your child's online activities, using parental control software or apps. 4. Educate about privacy: Teach your child about the importance of keeping personal information private online.
Safety Tips for Kids 1. Never share personal info: Remind your child not to share their name, address, phone number, or other personal details online. 2. Be cautious with strangers: Teach your child to be wary of online strangers and never agree to meet someone in person. 3. Avoid cyberbullying: Encourage your child to be kind online and report any instances of cyberbullying.Never make negative comments on other people's posts about their appearance,lifestyle choices or general unkind words. Never share or upload photos of other people. Avoid group chats that encourage bullying. 4. Don't click on suspicious links: Warn your child about the dangers of clicking on unknown links or downloading attachments from untrusted sources.
